A Ghost of a Chance - a new play by Nick Hennegan - won a prestigious Guinness Award through the Royal National Theatre and was first presented at the Billesely Pub in Birmingham in 1997.
It starred Paul Henry (perhaps always best known for playing 'Benny' in the original Crossroads) 12 year old Justyn Luke Towler and a disembodied 'voice' provided by non other than our own John Slater. Music was by Robb Williams and it was directed by John Adams.
Nick
kept a production diary. An unedited stream of consciousness, from the
first idea of the play right through to the opening night. It covers
five months of Maverick theatre life; dole and disappointments, late
nights and lager, finding his 'inner child' and various ramblings and
reminisces.
