About the Maverick Theatre Company...

Launched in 1994 by the Lord Mayor Of Birmingham, the awarding-winning Maverick Theatre Company is committed to bringing quality, professional theatre to new audiences through a mix of contemporary classics and new works.

Maverick's roots lie in presentations in pubs - mainly the Billesley Pub in South Birmingham.  The productions attracted rave reviews and sell out houses. The concept was that for little more than the cost of a DVD rental, you could sample theatre in your local pub. Sit back and relax with a drink and experience a live play right in front of you. No retakes, no editing, just quality entertainment in an intimate, relaxed environment.

The policy was to present contemporary classics and new plays by local writers.  In 2007 Maverick started to take it's original, Birmingham created, critically acclaimed body of work on the road and return once more to grass-roots theatre in Birmingham and on tour throughout the UK.

Maverick began working on projects in London in 2009, including a national tour of 'An Introduction to Theatre and Event Producing', a unique workshop designed to open up access and empower potential theatre makers.
